Rob Frost, a seasoned coach with multiple national tournament appearances and conference championships across NCAA and NAIA programs, joined the University of Mary as the Marauders head volleyball coach in February 2025.
Over a decade as a head coach, Frost has led his teams to five national tournaments and three conference titles. His programs have recorded at least 21 wins in nine of his 10 seasons, never finishing with a losing record. Across three head coaching stops, Frost has compiled a career record of 243-82.
Frost will officially begin his duties with the Marauders in mid-February.
"We are thrilled to welcome Rob and his family to the University of Mary," said Marcus Wagner, the university's director of intercollegiate athletics. "He brings a wealth of coaching knowledge and a proven ability to develop scholar-athletes both on and off the court. His Christ-centered, whole-person development approach aligns perfectly with our 'Greatness Through Virtue' vision for athletics. I am excited to see the future of Marauders volleyball under his leadership."
Frost expressed his enthusiasm for joining the program.
"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to work with the team, coaches, and leadership at the University of Mary," said Frost. "I want to thank Monsignor James Shea, Jerome Richter, Marcus Wagner, and the search committee for their time and effort throughout the hiring process. There is a great sense of community on campus, and I'm excited to be a part of it. It's clear that there are many people here who truly support Marauders Athletics.
"I know the team is eager to work hard, and I'm looking forward to getting to know them and building something special together. I believe in the 'Greatness Through Virtue' mission at the University of Mary, and I'm excited to apply it to our volleyball program."
A native of Ohio, Frost spent the 2024 season as an assistant coach at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN, where he reunited with head coach Denise Van De Walle. He previously served under Van De Walle at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University from 2007 to 2010.
Frost's head coaching résumé includes leading Bethel University (IN) in 2023 to a 26-7 overall record and a 13-5 mark in conference play. The Pilots reached as high as No. 15 in the national poll and qualified for the NAIA national tournament.
Prior to that, he spent eight seasons (2011-18) as the head coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) in Belton, TX. There, he guided the Crusaders to three national tournament appearances and five American Southwest Conference (ASC) West Division championships. UMHB posted a dominant 192-66 overall record under Frost, including a 105-19 mark in conference play. The team reached the NCAA Division III tournament "Sweet 16" in both 2017 and 2018 after finishing 28-5 in back-to-back seasons. The 2014 squad also became the first in program history to break into the AVCA Top 25 poll.
Frost was named ASC Coach of the Year five times and led the Crusaders to two conference tournament titles while finishing as the runner-up three other times. He coached five players to AVCA All-America honorable mention recognition, and his teams frequently excelled academically, posting the highest team GPA at UMHB three times.
Frost began his head coaching career in 2006 at Belhaven University, leading the program to a 25-11 record, a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship, and a berth in the NAIA Region XIII tournament.
A former collegiate player at Moody Bible Institute, Frost launched his coaching career at his alma mater in 1998 before serving as an assistant at Taylor University (2002-03) and Cleveland State University (2004-06).
Frost holds a bachelor's degree in education/youth ministry from Moody (1999) and a master's degree in sports management from Cleveland State (2005).
